Lockout Tagout Padlocks are designed specifically for use in Lockout Tagout applications. These Safety Locks are compact yet rugged and have a body that is tough, durable and ultra lightweight that make them ideal for use in harsh industrial environments.

When isolating a lockout point the Lockout Tagout Padlocks are used to secure the Loto device in place. This prevents the energy source that is being ‘secured’ from being used. In order for the energy source to be turned ON, both the padlock and the lockout device must be removed.

How to choose the right Lockout Tagout Padlocks: Selecting the correct Padlocks involves evaluating your Lockout Program needs and considering the key factors as listed below,

a) Durability: One has to ensure that the padlock can withstand harsh environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, exposure to chemicals and physical wear and tear.

b) Standardized: The Safety Padlocks should be standardized as per color, shape or size, print and format. The padlocks should be standardized as per the as per the guidelines rather than to a customers preference.

c) Exclusively for Safety: As per OSHA 1910.147, Lockout Tagout Padlocks should only be used only during Lockout Tagout Programs to isolate the energy points and for no other purpose.

Selecting the right Key system for your Lockout Program:

Keyed Different Padlocks: Each Lockout Padlock can only be unlocked by a unique key and wouldn’t open any other padlocks. The usual lockout scenario when an authorized employee commonly applies a single padlock.

Keyed Alike Padlocks: All Lockout Padlocks within a specific group have the same key. This system is commonly used by authorized Loto employees in charge of several machines or isolation points to avoid them from carrying multiple different keys.

Master keyed Padlocks: The Lockout Program has a master key specifically configured to open different padlocks, whether keyed differently or keyed alike, when dealing with large maintenance teams. It must be noted that this key system can present a risk of a Lockout system breach should this Master key fall into the wrong hands of an employee/person who is not supposed to operate the Lockout Padlocks.
