Description
Lockout Tags are made of flexible plastic which can be attached to all the lockout devices using a padlock or a cable tie. Tagout devices warn against hazardous conditions if the machine or equipment is energized. Additionally OSHA 1910.333(e) and (f) require that all disconnecting means show the magnitude and shall be legibly marked to indicate the purpose, unless located and arranged so the purpose is evident. Control of hazardous energy is addressed in specific OSHA standards for general industry, maritime, and construction.
The Lockout Tags which are made from high impact industrial grade semi-rigid PVC, are suitable for harsh environments and are designed to ensure clear communication which ensures the safety of the employees. They are resistant to water, oil and extreme temperatures and the surface is suitable for writing with a marker pen. You can attach the Lockout Tags directly to the Lockout Devices using a cable tie or a Lockout Padlock.
Lockout Tags are warning devices that you apply to energy-isolating Lockout devices. These Tags warn the employees that they cannot operate equipment or machinery without removing the lockout or tagout device.
The key steps to a safe Lockout Tagout program are,
- Preparing for a shutdown of the hazardous energy
- Notifying the employees about the lockout program
- Shutting down the machinery or equipment as per the process
- Applying Lockout and Tagout devices to secure the isolation points
- Controlling any stored energy like electrical charge in capacitors or compressed springs
- Verifying and rechecking of the hazardous energy source isolation
- Maintaining the lockout program until the need for restoration of energy
- Removing the lockout tagout devices after completion of maintenance work and testing and also informing the employees about the completion of the Lockout Program
